Determination of metals and metalloids in surface water and sediments of the Paraopeba River basin

 

This subproject aims to assess the presence and distribution of inorganic contaminants in surface waters and sediments of the Paraopeba River Basin.

 

This objective is divided into:

  • Determine inorganic contaminants provided for in CONAMA Standards 357 and 454 in samples of surface water and sediments, respectively, sent for analysis by the CTC-UFMG;
  • After delivering the results of the partial reports with the results obtained and receiving the georeferencing of the samples from the CTC-UFMG, compare the results obtained with the quality guide values ​​of the CONAMA 357 and 454 Standards.
  • Evaluate the results obtained in relation to the work carried out by the parties involved in the lawsuits, which are being processed before the Court of the 2nd Public Treasury of the District of Belo Horizonte, in addition to other environmental monitoring works and available scientific studies;
  • Carry out the preparation of surface water samples according to the methods described in the Standard Methods of Examination of Water and Waste Water (SMWW), suggested in the notice of this call;
  • Carry out the preparation of sediment samples according to the methods of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 3050B, 3051A or 3052 and the determinations of the elements according to SMWW 3120B, 3125B or EPA 6010D, 6020B and 200.8;
  • Develop methods in accordance with quality management parameters established by the Environmental Reference Center (CRA);
  • Check if the surface water samples from the Paraopeba River Basin are found to have rare earth elements and quantify them by ICP OES or ICP-MS;
  • Quantify the anionic species present in surface water samples by ion chromatography.
  • Carry out the data treatment applying chemometric data grouping tools, PCA and HCA, to evidence similarities between samples, grouping parameters and correlations between measured parameters;

 

Methodological steps:

1st Step - Analysis of surface water and sediment samples: preparation of surface water and sediment samples.

2nd Stage - Receipt of data from the CTC-UFMG on the sampling plan and preparation of a complete report using this data and comparisons with data from other works.
